Northwood's disappointing results continued on Wednesday night against a strong, physical Sun Postal side, although the end result was flattering to the away side.

The Woods started brightly in the opening periods and most of the play was contested in the midfield area. Sun had the first opportunity when a rash tackle from Olly Wright, which rightly earn him a booking, twenty yards from goal resulted in a free-kick which just missed the upright.

Wright then redeemed himself by opening the scoring for the Woods when he was put through and lobbed the goalkeeper with a neat finish after just nine minutes.

But Northwood, having not learned from conceding free kicks outside the box, got punished again as a needless free-kick was awarded to Sun 25 yards out and centre of goal. The Sun player hit a tremendous strike which hit the underside of the crossbar, with Ross Thompson well beaten, only to hit him on the back and rebound into the net for an own goal.

Sun went ahead after 35 minutes when a long ball was played over the centre of Woods’ defence who appealed for offside in vain as the Sports striker producing a clinical finish, rounding Thompson and scoring from acute angle.

An improved second half performance Woods started playing with more confidence, creating chances of their own. The game then hinged on two penalty decisions the first awarded to Sun after a rash challenge by Lee Edwards, the Sun striker coolly despatching the resulting spot-kick to increase their lead.

The second was awarded to Woods after a neat move, Jake O'Meara moving across a defender who brought him down. O'Meara took the resulting spot kick only to balloon it high over the bar with 10 minutes to play.

Woods still created chances and enjoyed the better of the remaining play, only to concede a fourth goal minutes before full time as they failed to shut down a player who hit another tremendous strike from 25-yards into the top corner of the goal with Thompson again well beaten.
